Dear Principal:

The Respect for Law Alliance will conduct its 14th Annual Essay Contest for high school students. A $1,000.00 stipend will be awarded to the contest winner. The winning student essayist will be invited, with a guest, to attend the Respect for Law Awards Reception and Banquet on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 6 P.M. at the Harmonie Club, 4 East 60th Street (between Madison & 5th Aves), at which time the winning essayist’s achievement will be recognized and the stipend awarded.

The topic for the essay is:  How Can We Improve Respect for Law?

The essay must be emailed in plain-text format (no special fonts, no attachments) to the following address: HSEssayContest@rfla.us before midnight on Friday, May 1. Attachments will not be opened or viewed. The subject heading of the email should consist of the student’s first and last name. The first line of the body of the email should be the essay topic. The student should then skip one line and begin the essay. At the end of the essay, the student should skip another line and then provide the following information: the student’s full name, telephone number, and address; the school’s name and telephone number, and the teacher’s name.

The essay must be limited to 500 words. Please advise students that plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.

*Only send essay submissions to HSEssayContest@rfla.us. Do NOT send any other email or inquiry to that address.* We encourage you to visit our website at www.rfla.us for further updates and information.
